Russ Jones, a Harvard MBA with ten patents, has been a serial Silicon Valley founder for years. His first company Clearvox Communications pioneered the market for mobile phone headsets and it became the category winner shipping millions of units.

After he sold that to Platronics, he started a social give-back firm called Sentinel Vision which spearheaded the market for vision-based security systems for apartment renters.

Russ remembered the drama of working with trucking carriers for his headset business and started Cargo Chief the brokerage over a decade ago to solve those issues. This early tech-enabled freight brokerage quickly grew to 600+ clients and $10Ms of revenue. Then in 2017 multiple other brokers requested to license his technology. After the 6th request, he pivoted and transitioned Cargo Chief into a technology SaaS firm.

This tech firm amassed the most comprehensive information about for-hire carriers’ lane preferences which combined with the industry’s first real-time pricing engine, empowered Cargo Chief to offer highly targeted best-in-class digital freight matching to 1,200 freight buyers, $8B+ of spend. Cargo Chief executed a pilot with a massive private fleet, and Russ was hooked.

With Russ’ passion for aggregating private fleet capacity, Cargo Chief and Russ came to an agreement for him to spin out of Private Fleet Net Zero, which is partnered with Cargo Chief.
